Ube Puto with Cheese Recipe

Ube is a popular filipino treat that is becoming mainstream in the US.

It has this unique nutty taste that compliments most desserts and drinks.

Since we are lazy (hence the tamad cook), here's a hack on how to make this dish using the following items and ingredients.

Items Needed:

  1. Ingredients below

  2. Steamer or rice cooker with steam basket

  3. Puto molds


1. Box of puto mix from White King . You can quickly purchase it in the link below

(you will only use 1 bag unless you want to make a bigger batch) .

2. Ube flavor from Butterfly

3. Kraft shredded sharp cheddar cheese or Velveeta singles


  1. Follow directions from puto mix.

  2. Add the ube flavoring once you have incorporated the ingredients from the mix. I use about 1 tsp/package (The flavor and aroma can be enhanced with the help of a drop or two)

  3. Pour into puto molds

  4. Add the cheese topping

  5. Place them into the steamer basket. If you do not have a steamer, you can use the rice cooker with steamer basket or use any traditional steamer.

  6. Steam per puto mix package.

  7. Enjoy!
